Unless the data is important. Most factory restores reformat the drive. I just went through this with a friend's computer. She got a virus that wiped her computer then it hid itself in the boot sector. Every time they did the restore, it wiped the hard drive again. Makes it tougher to get the files back with recovery software every time you write to the drive.

After trying a couple times and failing, including a power outage after three days of running the recovery software, I found a great program called Recover My Software. It got pretty much everything back even after multiple writes to the drive.

this is why I have two HDDs, one for my working windows files and one for everything else, so if I have to reformat, I dont loose anything important

I tell everyone that they do not have their files backed up unless they have at least two separate copies on two different devices. And having both drives or devices in the same location doesn't really help if there's a fire or something. These days the cloud is an excellent place to back up important files. Dropbox is free.

That being said, I'm terrible when it comes to backing things up. I have so much data that I would spend all my time backing up. I really need to set up a RAID system.

Do you want to know how to clean up the virus?

Is that why Lillith's signature (I think that's what the picture below her entry is called) has gotten so huge? Every time I click on a thread with one of her posts, her signature (that decorative flower or whatever it is) expands forever. I have never had that problem with anything of hers before.

I USE AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE TO BACK UP MY HARD DRIVE.

IT ALSO HELPS TO RUN A DAILY VIRUS SCAN AND MALWARE SCAN.
