Halloween Discussion Forums, Costumes, Horror!

I like to observe dia de los Muertos, but then again I am in California.

I think our TOT is going to be tonight. My husband sat out on the front porch for an hour, with the wind and rain whipping through the yards, and no one came by. So I got in the car and drove the short distance to our "Halloween street," a destination street for TOTers, where every house vies with every other house in yard haunts, and so many people show up that the police have to direct traffic. Last night there wasn't even a pumpkin lit! I know those people are going to celebrate Halloween, so I am expecting the little goblins tonight. We will get the spill-over from their crowds.

Tragically, one child up in Nashville lost his life last night. A 9-yr-old was riding his bicycle at 9:30, and a tree limb fell on a power line. He came into contact with the power line and was electrocuted. I have no idea why he was riding his bike at 9:30 p.m. in weather like that.

Pretty much the entire mid-state is doing TOT tonight, except for the shopping malls, etc., which went ahead with it yesterday.

Andy, my costume this year is Day of the Dead.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I feel for his family. Unfortunately, kids sometimes think they're immortal and do foolish things thinking nothing bad will happen.

We had 290-300 TOT's...not kidding
I had candy bags for 240, 2-3 pounds of loose 'penny' candy, my neighbors sent over about 30-40 dum dum lollypops, and my friend went home and brought 3 more bags of chocolate candy bars...all gone. Un-freakin real.
I have to say I've learned a few things this year!!!

1) we honestly had more fun last night than at our adult party
2) Although everyone loved the Beetlejuice theme, we really do better with just
a themed backdrop. Our old west town, and the castle was still being talked
about last night, while the gypsy camp, and last years Arabian nights, no one
even mentioned. All of these were props in the yard, more than just a setting?
if that makes sense.
3) DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, stay up until 11pm drinking rum when you have to
get up at 3AM to go to work... (lesson never sinks in)

4) The neighbors (new) that put soooooooooo much time and effort into their haunt
were almost disappointed. They had black plastic'd their yard...he was a butcher
(very big man) and she was a dead person, and the yard was absolutely fantastic..
.....but .....the TOT"s were afraid to go in. They had (remember, they are
literally kitty corner from my house (the bright red whorehouse...lol) and all the
other neighbors had scores at a time; they would have 5-6 at a time.

So, all in all, lessons to be learned..especially..buy wayyyyyy more candy than you think you would need, (which I thought I had...was already making plans to turn the extra into
a Christmas craft ...nothing goes to waste here)

It's OK. I enjoyed reading your happy post.

We ended by having a good Halloween one day late. We got over 70 TOTers, which is a lot for us. And the destination street was in full swing. My daughter and I walked it and even got a little candy ourselves!
