That's pretty much how it was for me, too Murf. When I was a child, Christmas was THE major holiday. But then, why wouldn't it be? That's when we got all our neatest toys. Christmas was even as great because it was presents for everyone. Birthdays were great back then, because they were like our own little privat "Christmases."
Now a days, I am also drawn more to other holidays, too. My favorite holidays are 1. Halloween, 2. 4th of July, 3. Easter, and dead last is Christmas. I love Christmas, but it just does not have the "magic" it once had. Halloween, on the other hand, is even more fun then it was, because now I get to give out the candy. I don't have to go to work or school, because I have vacation time, and I can cruise around on my Harley at the stroke of midnight if I feel like it.
The 4th of July is a very close 2nd to Halloween for being a favorite of mine because I LOVE fireworks, and especialy firecrackers. I enjoy lighting off smoke bombs, firecrackers and a whole host of other things that go "boom," and make all kinds of spectacular displaye.
And when I was a kid, it was great. I got presents for Christmas in the Winter time, and no school. Then my Birthday is in July, so I got presents in the Summer time, and no school. Before my bday, there was the 4th of July. My older brother would buy me a couple gross of bottle rockets, 3 or 4 dozen smoke balls, and my own half brick of fire crackers. It was really cool.

Christmas & my birthday come together. My kids have birthdays at other times of year, but for me, Christmas was pretty much it.

I feel your pain there, Murf. My birthday is around Thanksgiving (actually falls on it this year

) and I know all about being sometimes 'forgotten' in all the frenzy. Nobody in my family actually forgets when my birthday is, but it's often not quite as big as everyone else's. And I hate to admit this but most of my friends and even my sweetie forget about my birthday--everyone is so focused on 'Eating yourself into a coma Day'. I'm used to it so it doesn't really bum me out anymore, but I think this might be why I despise Thanksgiving so much.
I'll tell you one thing: my birthday dinner this year will NOT involve turkey!! I'll go so far as to order a pizza the night before to avoid it

I've never actually minded my Christmas birthday, but it's true that, especially as I've gotten older, it is usually ignored. Not by my immediate family, but by everyone else. Of course, perhaps it's like that for most adults.

My birthday is on St. patrick Day so most Americans prefer to celebrate it.

I really don't enby anyone who's Birthday falls on a major holiday like Christmas or Thanksgiving, because more often then not those people go get gyped out of a real 'all-to-themselvs' special day. My sister inlaw's Birthday is actualy on December 25th, and we allways make it a point to give her a cake and her kids buy her a gift, but it was allways only a part of Christmas. Her brothers and sisters all got their own special day all to themselvs.
That's probably why I loved my birthday so much. It had all the advantages of being on a holiday, because it's in July, and there was no school, but it was never a highly observed holiday. IT was just regular old July 24th. Summer vacation, and for me, when I was a kid, it was like Christmas in Summer time. I got all my neat Christmas presents in December during the Winter season, and then I got all my neat Birthday presents in July during the Summer time. Both days, I had plenty of time off frm school to enjoy them.

I can see how that timing would be ideal for a kid. My boys both have August birthdays, so their experience has not been too different from yours, I guess.
Mine isn't actually on Christmas Day, but three days before. I have never actually minded it. It has just given me an excuse for a party or mini-celebration in the run up to Christmas. Perhaps it's been harder on my husband, having to think of two gifts at once. Generally he gives me something personal on my birthday, and more of a family gift at Christmas. Like, one year he gave me a necklace for my birthday, and a DVD player three days later.

We do have a special little Birthday observance for my sister inlaw on Christmas day, and she seems cool with the idea of sharing her special day with Jesus, but my nieces and nephew make it a point to set aside a Saturday in December to celebrate her Birthday with a special dinner and a cake. We sing to her on Christmas, but her family does something exclusively for her on a different day.
Like I said, I LOVE the fact that my Bday is in July, and not during a major holiday. For that matter, I LOVE having my Bday in the Summer time. Now a days, I celebrate my Bday more as my own personal Thanksgiving, rather then my own personal Christmas. I cook up a nice meal, usualy on the barbecue, and I go to Mass in the morning and offer it up for Thanksgiving for another year of life.

That's a lovely celebration.
For me, the main issue is just that I'm so busy during the days before Christmas.
